This book was recommended to me by a fellow meditator and it did not disappoint, but had a much broader scope than I expected. Mr. Anderson's story takes us through his childhood and to Vietnam as a young adult. His experiences as a Marine are described in a vivid, completely open and authentic way that gives the reader a true sense of the war and how it shaped him.
The tale of how he met his spiritual teacher and the relationship that developed between them was fascinating to follow; and to me was the best part of the book.
Overall this is a wide ranging saga that takes us from childhood to successful businessman, from war ethos to spiritual seeker. There is something for everyone here. I heartily recommend "Warrior's Song The Journey Home".
I purchased this book, expecting or should I say hoping it was a tale of time served as a Marine. I was to give it to my husband as a Christmas present. How disappointing. There is very little in the book with regards to true service as a Marine, rather this is a thinly veiled attempt to push hinduism on the unsuspecting. Some of the information is down right sad. As a Christian, I know that Jesus is the ONLY way to the father, this is a very sad commentary on a person whose life has been wasted searching for the truth and ignoring it. Do NOT PURCHASE this book if you are looking for a Marine or Warriors tale you will be disappointed. Praying this man will come to see the TRUTH that is found in Jesus alone.
I thoroughly enjoyed Warrior's Song The Journey Home. I found it very interesting, inspiring, thought-provoking, and heart-stirring. Wonderful to read!
A beautiful account of the journey of living in this world and yet finding the innermost being that resides within and all around you. His vivid and realistic description of his times in Vietnam and the truths unfolded to him through the teachings of his Guru, Gururaj Ananda Yogi, led this youg and brave man to the tenderness and lovingness of his heart covered by the body of a courageous soldier and warrior of peace and beauty.
I was in the Air Force during that exact time period. As a woman I did not see combat, but as a stateside medic I did see some of the results of it. I found Anderson's description of his time in Vietnam to be an honest blend of both youthful bravado and true courage. The Marine Corps began the process of subsuming individual needs into something higher. The rest of the book illustrates the process of surrendering the small ego self to the greater Self using meditation and the teachings of his guru. To the values he learned in the Marines, the book demonstrates that he could also add openness, competence, tenderness, and a willingness to help others in their search. I enjoyed reading it.
